Meeting Frequency: Meetings of the Aviation Authority Board and its Committees are held in the second floor administrative offices located inside the CHS terminal at 2 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month. Occasionally special meetings are scheduled.
Term Limit: 4 year Terms, unlimited number of Terms.
Affecting Legislation: The City of Charleston Health & Wellness Advisory Committee shall have the following roles and responsibilities: (a) To make recommendations and advise city council and staff on all community health and wellness issues; (b) Increase public awareness of community health and wellness issues;
(c) Educate citizens on healthy lifestyle choices including, but not limited to: nutrition, physical activity, and safety; (d) Provide recommendations for a healthy environment to combat childhood and adult obesity; (e) Provide recommendations for creating and promoting healthy workplaces in the community; (f) Make recommendations on City Partnerships with private and public organizations to create, support, and encourage community programs and activities benefiting health and wellness.
The organization of the City of Charleston Health & Wellness Advisory Committee shall be comprised of twenty (20) members, seventeen (17) voting and three (3) ex-officio. The committee membership shall include the Mayor, two (2) City Council members appointed by the mayor, and a representative from each of the following: MUSC; Roper/St. Francis; Chas. Cty. School District; Chas. Cty, Medical Society; Fetter Healthcare; College of Charleston or the Citadel; SCDHEC Lowcountry District; Local expert on Agriculture/Food Advocacy; Expert in nutrition / weight management; Expert in active living / built environment; Expert in Mental Health; Expert in Children / Adolescent health; Faith-based Community Wellness Leader; Neighborhood Advocate; Director of Recreation – ex officio; Director of Parks – ex officio; Wellness Coordinator – ex officio.
Term Limit: 2 year Terms, limited to 2 Consecutive Terms, then 2 year break.
